It was a disappointing finish to the season for Kidwelly, when they narrowly lost to mumbles, in a game that they had controlled for long periods of play, indeed but for a twenty minute period in the second half, the black and ambers back division constantly tore holes in the home defence, only to be held out by last ditch tackles, the try count was even with two apiece, and it was unfortunate for the visitors that both conversion attempts by fly-half Stuart Morris struck an upright.
Mumbles playing with the advantage of a strong breeze took the lead in the eighth minute with a thirty meter penalty by full back Warren Davies, within minutes Kidwelly had struck back, from a line out close to the home try line, a loose throw in was caught by flanker Chris Cray, who scored wide out, Stuart Morris saw his conversion attempt hit the post, Kidwelly continued to dominate with excellent three quarter play, but a well organised home defence kept them at bay, on the half hour Mumbles took the lead against the run of play, a speculative kick ahead saw the ball seemingly going over the visitors dead-ball line, but fullback Warren Davies showed blister ring pace to gain the touchdown inches short of the dead-ball line, Kidwelly came back strongly, but failed to break through the home defence, the half time whistle went with the home team holding a eight points to five lead.
Within minutes of the restart Kidwelly had drawn level, Morris kicking an angled thirty five meter penalty, the visitors continued to attack and deservedly took the lead fifteen minutes into the second period, good running by Robert Walters and Andrew Francis, took play into the home twenty two, Francis linked with skipper Craig Thomas who broke several tackles to score midway out once again Morris saw his conversion attempt hit the upright, in the final quarter of the game, the bigger Mumbles forwards began to dominate, and with ten minutes remaining, they regained the lead, when from a line out deep in the visitors twenty-two they set up a driving maul for lock Steve Bolan to get the touch-down, Warren Davies added the vital extra points, Kidwelly came back strongly, great passing along the back division freed up wing Mathew Davies, who ran strongly before being held three meters short of the home try line, he tried to link with livewire flanker Richard Gravelle, who just failed to hold a difficult pass of his boot laces, deep in injury time, Mathew Davies went close with a difficult penalty attempt, and the final whistle went with the home team gaining a rather fortuitous victory
