Stan Liptrot
Having been our Head of our Rugby Coaching Team for the last 3 seasons, our greatly respected and admired 'rugby friend,' Stan Liptrot passed away on Saturday, January 16. Prior to Stan's involvement, the 1st team's playing squad had lost their way, in terms of direction and confidence, and with the departure of the Coach, there was a need to sit down and give the matter some thought, where do we go from here, where do we start looking for a rugby coach?
Very much out of the blue, this gentleman from Carmarthen called Stan Liptrot expressed an interest, so we felt we would need to meet up and discuss matters, have some idea of his coaching credentials and if both parties liked what each other had to offer, then we could very well have ourselves a rugby coach in readiness for the coming season. Stan's rugby coaching credentials were indeed very impressive and during that get together he was honest, forthright and bold in what he felt he could offer. Providing the players gave him an honest commitment with regards to their attendance to training sessions, listen and heed his direction and advice on the game of rugby, and on match days focus positively on the day's play, have confidence and respect for each other as a team and yourself as an individual, then Kidwelly RFC would again regain direction and confidence.
In the time that Stan was with us as Head of our Rugby Coaching Team he became a much respected and admired figure within the 'Kidwelly RFC circle.' His coaching manual consisted of a sound knowledge, based on numerous years as a coach at International level and with other prestigious rugby clubs; he loved the game of rugby with a passion; he possessed admirable man management skills, he offered respect to each and everyone, and was paid back ten times over, he never shouted or cursed the players, he spoke with a smile on his face and with a glint in his eye, he spoke in a very fatherly fashion. In becoming a very successful Rugby Coach to Kidwelly RFC, Stan you could say had an advantage, he was open, honest and approachable, and everyone liked him.
Stan had not been well for quite some time and knew that major surgery was to be in the near future, we last saw Stan in his coaching role at Kidwelly RFC early in November, he was then admitted into Hospital where he underwent major surgery on two occasions, and remained in Hospital until he passed away. Our thoughts at this time are very much with his wife and family, and we offer them our deepest sympathy.
Stan was a very proud Englishman and a devoted Manchester City supporter. We at Kidwelly RFC will miss him for what he gave and continued to offer the Club as a Rugby Coach; Stan Liptrot's too brief association with the Club was served with dignity, he was a thoroughly decent gentleman and we shall miss him.
